Summer is just around the corner (or overwhelmingly upon us. Hello 33-degree-plus Ontario July!) and with it is coming our heat-loving summer blooms. This post will explore what flowers are blooming now, and what to expect in the coming weeks.

Understanding Seasonal Blooms
Seasonal flowers are those that bloom during specific times of the year. Choosing flowers that are in season not only ensures freshness but also supports local growers. Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect to find blooming in the next week.
Early Summer Blooms
Early July is a bit of a gap period for Ontario flowers. The spring bulbs are all done, peonies are fading and the heat-loving summer annuals are just getting into the swing of things. Snapdragons are killing it for us in the field right now and you can expect more snapdragon bouquets next week, but here's what you can look forward to as the warm weather ushers in these classic summer flowers:
Snapdragons: A reliable and nostalgic classic, these joyful flowers are a stalwart July bloom. Unlike the bedding snapdragons you can find at a local nursery, our field snaps are tall (up to four feet!), robust, and will keep blooming in a vase for over a week if the water is changed regularly!
Sunflowers: A summer classic, sunflowers are pure joy. We have a huge number of sunflowers that are just budding right now, so be sure to check back in a week or two as we will be selling lots of these at the farm market!
Zinnias: Big. Bright. Lush. Amazing vase life. What's not to love? Our zinnia patch is getting ready for a big flush, so keep an eye out for these soon!
Tips for Keeping Your Bouquets Fresh
Once have your stunning bouquet, you’ll want to ensure it lasts as long as possible. Here are some tips for keeping your flowers fresh:
Trim the Stems: Cut the stems at an angle before placing them in water. This allows for better water absorption.
Use Clean Water: Change the water every few days to prevent bacteria growth.
Remove Wilting Flowers: As flowers begin to wilt, remove them to keep the bouquet looking fresh.
Keep Away from Heat: Place your bouquet in a cool area, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
